Lansdowne Updates!

Lansdowne Skatepark is one of the only remaining parks left that was built in the 1970's.

It has been almost untouched from it's original layout!

Only some curb features and an asphalt skirt have been added since it originally opened in the mid-70's.

It was built during a time when the Urethane wheel revolutionized skateboarding, and took skateboarding from the streets, tennis courts, and sidewalks, to limits never thought possible!

It was now possible to skate banks, pools, pipes, and other vertical terrain!

The Z-Boys of Dogtown were becoming world famous through the

pages of Skateboarder Magazine as ground was being broken to pour the concrete for Lansdowne!

Parks were being built everywhere, and Lansdowne was one of the first!!!

It is argued that it may possibly be the oldest concrete park in existence in the US and it is the oldest non-privately owned park still around.

Lansdowne stands as a monument to what has been three and a half decades of skateboarders;

some of which are still skating here today in their 40's & 50's.

Three generations of pro skaters have skated the "Downer"

and it has been featured in too many skate videos to mention!

It has been said that Lansdowne is the closest thing to surfing

you can experience, out of water!

I am Karl/IRT/i_r_taz/Taz or whatever.  I skated Lansdowne as a teen in the mid to late 70's  and started to skate there again in the Spring of 2003 with my teen son!

Remember that if you are under 18 years old you must have a parent sign a waiver

in person or get a waiver and have it signed and noterized!

It is also mandatory that you wear a helmet, elbow & knee pads now!

There are no exceptions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES IT DOES SUCK!!!

but it is free!

Below is a link to the downloadable waiver site!
